What
is Group Cycling? Group cycling began
in the early 90ís with
"Spinning",
a trade mark program developed by
Johnny G with Schwinn stationary
bikes. Since then, group cycling
classes have become popular with many
bike manufacturers, class formats and
instructor certification programs to
choose from. A typical class consists
of form instruction, a 40 minute
programmed bike ride accompanied with
background music followed by a cool
down and stretch session.

What
are the benefits? Participants can
enjoy an excellent cardiovascular
workout plus receive strength and
endurance benefits in a fun and
motivating atmosphere.
What
bikes do we use? Schwinn's new, top
of the line "Evolution".
Do I
need cycling experience to
participate? No, the instructor/coach
will teach you everything you need to
know.
Do I
need to be in good shape to enjoy a
class? Everyone is in control of their
own resistance level on the bike so
each participant works out at their
individual pace. During some classes
we will be leading advanced training
positions. These classes will be noted
as advanced. Persons new to cycling
training may want to work up to these
positions by taking a few
"moderate"
classes.
What
should I wear? Padded biking shorts
make longer rides more comfortable but
are not mandatory. The pedals will
have toe clips and some will have
clip-in options for participants with
biking shoes.
What
about hydration? Bring a full water
bottle.
Where
are the classes held? In the
Huckleberry Room. The room will not be
available to any other use during
class times.
Is
there a class fee? Included with
membership.
Non-member price to take a
class only (no other use of club
permitted) $8/class.
Reservations
may be placed by paying for a class, as early as Monday for
the current and following week. (ie On
or after February 3rd, sign up for
classes through February 15th.).
Cancellations inside of 2 hours prior to
scheduled class time is non-refundable.
Is
it "Spinning"? Most of our
instructors have attended
"Spinning"
certification seminars. This past year
Schwinn and "Spinning" went
separate ways. We chose the top of the
line "Schwinn Evolution"
bike which is a step
up from the original spinning bike but
is not part of the current
"Spinning" program" The Sandpoint West program
is referred to as "Group
Cycling".
